Lizards are a nuisance in the house.
Research shows that they harbour pathogenic bacteria, parasites, and illnesses that could be dangerous to people.
The danger is posed particularly when they come into contact with places used for food preparation or surfaces that are frequently touched by people.
The most common types of lizards likely to be found in the house are the tropical house gecko and the five-lined skink.
They may infiltrate homes in search of prey because they are naturally insect hunters.
The first step in getting rid of lizards in your home is eliminating any insect or pest infestation (if you have any).
1. Use pepper spray
Pepper spray should be used if you intend to get rid of the lizards without harming them.
Mix water with black pepper, put the solution inside a spray bottle and spray it all over your home, especially in areas where you find lizards such as around your kitchen, underneath the sofas, on the walls and behind the furniture.
The lizards are likely to stay away from the sprayed areas because pepper irritates their skin.
Red chilli powder and chilli sauce can be used as substitutes for black pepper.
2. Keep cats in the home
Keeping a cat at home will save you the hassle of having to do the task of driving away the lizards by yourself.
Cats love nibbling on lizards. This will have the lizards always running for their lives when they see the cat.
3. Use onions and garlic
Due to the sulfur content in onions, lizards are unable to stand the smell and will always flee when they perceive them.
Just like onions, lizards will become agitated by the strong smell of garlic and flee your house.
Garlic cloves can be hung from windows or doors, or you can scatter them throughout your house.
You might also consider using a mixture of water and garlic juice as a spray to get the same results around your house.
4. Use naphthalene balls
These balls, normally kept in the house to repel insects and pests can also be used to drive away lizards from the home.
Lizards detest the smell of these balls. To get rid of the small reptiles, consider placing the naphthalene balls at each possible place where lizards are likely to be starting from the crevices in the walls.
5. Use coffee powder and tobacco
This is the simplest way to get rid of lizards. All you have to do is combine the tobacco and coffee powder and roll them into little balls.
Then, scatter the balls throughout the house, paying particular attention to the areas where lizards are most common. After consuming these balls, the lizards will either die or flee your house.
Caution should be taken when using this method, however, especially if you have toddlers and pets in the house.
